AURA-SOMA A HEALING JOURNEY THROUGH COLOURS

My journey with Aura-Soma began in 1996 when instead of handing me a remedy, the homeopath I had consulted presented me with a little plastic bottle with a violet liquid inside it. It was St Germain, one of the Aura-Soma Quintessences. At the time, all of this was alien to me but I remember she mentioned that by using this product I could help to transform negative into positive. Later on, when I was initiated into Reiki, I noticed that my Reiki teacher was using a similar bottle with a different colour inside. 3 drops were placed inside my palm and I was shown how to bring it into my Aura for protection.
A couple of years later, I stepped into a house in Rathfarnham where another Reiki teacher lived. She had an amazing collection of glass bottles with 100 colour combinations. I stood in awe as the lady asked us to choose a bottle. Some were very dark and I wondered who would ever choose those. I preferred the pastel tones. Since then I have learned to appreciate the beauty in each one of them though I still have preferences.
I chose a bottle and the lady told me I could check for the meaning of it in a book sitting on the coffee table. As I read through the paragraphs in the book, I was mesmerized. Most of it rang so true to me. Gradually, I learned more about these coloured glass bottles, the pomanders and quintessences and I began to use them myself.
One of my friends had trained in Aura-Soma and she “read my bottles” for me. I found it fascinating that a simple glass bottle with two colours in it could signify so much and more importantly that what was related to me was so accurate and so comforting.
I began to use these more and more and even to introduce them in the yoga classes I taught.
Eventually I decided to do the training course. I had used the products so much I thought the course wouldn’t teach me anything new but I was mistaken. I learned so much from it and made lovely new friends. I noticed that everyone who was drawn to Aura-Soma seemed attuned to finer, more subtle energies.
I loved to hear the story of Vicky Wall, the founder of Aura-Soma. She worked in an apothecary and her first product was born of a mistake she made while preparing an ointment for a client. It was then discovered that the cream she mixed had healing properties.
Later in life she became blind as a result of diabetes. One night as she was lying in bed, she heard a voice calling her to “divide the waters”. She wasn’t sure at first what it meant but it felt so insistent that she went down to the basement room she used as a lab.
She felt as if unseen fingers guided her hands and the first Aura-Soma bottle was born: Blue over deep magenta.
Over the years more and more bottles were born in similar circumstances.
Sadly I didn’t meet Vicky. She passed away before I connected with her through Aura-Soma. I felt her energy through her book and through the audio tape she made leading us across a bridge and the colours of the rainbow. As I listened to that tape, I felt a strong hand taking mine and I felt as if Vicky was literally walking with me through this.
In my little studio in Sandyford Village, Aura-Soma has become a daily ritual and a welcome addition to the natural healing that comes from our Yoga practice.
When the students arrive, they are greeted in the Aura-soma room with a collection of bottles now mounting to 108 plus 30 pomanders and quintessences. Sometimes we each choose a glass bottle, other times a pomander or quintessence and occasionally we retrieve the rescue set, the content of which can be massaged directly into the skin in the corresponding chakra (energy centre).
This set a special tone to the class and then I bring it full circle by including these colours again in the guided meditation at the end of the class.
In between all that we do of course connect with our body and our breath through a series of yoga postures and the focus of our work is “connection”: connecting with our body, our breath and the colours of our Aura, gives  us a clearer sense of our energy, of what is needed to bring us back into balance and the necessary tools to find inner peace.
Without colours, life would be dull, boring, grey and sad. Aura-Soma has made my life more colourful and this in turn has brought a smile to my face and a lightness of being I hadn’t experienced before.

A step towards becoming Homo Luminous
Marie Angeline Lascaux talks with Mike Booth about the Aura-Soma® system

Marie Angeline Lascaux: Welcome to Ireland Mike.  We had a lovely conversation about your work a while ago and I am hoping that today you can help us to find out a little bit more about the Aura-Soma system and specifically what is the meaning of these two words and why were they chosen?

Mike Booth: It was the innovator, the founder of the Aura-Soma system who picked these words.  She was a blind woman called Vicky Wall and in 1983 she was given this system of colours, a system that over the last 25 years has spread to 54 countries around the world. Aura-Soma means Light Body. Aura means Light and Soma means Body. It is working with our light frequencies and we can think of this in terms of the chakras or the energy centres within ourselves. We can think of that in terms of the charkas or the energy centres within ourselves.  We can also think of it as consciousness itself.  In many of the ancient wisdom systems colours were seen as the nature of consciousness, and so to work with the light body in the form of the Aura-Soma system is to work with the light frequencies, the energy centres and the nature of consciousness within ourselves. More specifically, each of the energy centres is a transceiver that gives out and receives energy. They are transmitters and receivers of information and whether we are more or less in optimum health depends on the functioning of these energy centres.
The Aura-Soma system consists of 108 colour combinations that fine tunes these energy centres.  Aura-Soma is a self selective, non intrusive colour-care-system and the colours invite that individual to pre-select for themselves what they feel calls to them the most.  They look at the 108 different colour combinations not superficially as to what they might like the most or what their favourite colour is, but from the point of view of a deep sense of calling from within themselves, a sense of resonance that comes from a deeper level.  It is like dropping below the shoulders, or below the feelings, towards being able to assess what colours we really have a preference towards. In selecting a particular colour combination from those 107 different colours, we are also pre-selecting in relation to what might help us to come back into balance most easily. What I mean by that is that we each have a possibility in relation to recognising our true colours. One of the primary understandings within the Aura-Soma system is “You are the colours you choose and these reflect your being’s needs.”
When we find the one that calls to us the most from these 108 different colour combinations, we are fine tuning not only the energy centre that is specific to that colour, but also in effect, its repercussions in the various energy centres within ourselves.
For instance say that out of the 108 different colour combinations, somebody was called to a yellow-red combination, then they are pre-selecting something which intimately relates to the base chakra, the lowest energy centre or the root of ourselves. Because that yellow-red relates specifically to that energy centre it also repercusses in some fundamental area of ourselves like the hormonal system. It relates to the adrenal hormonal balance. In terms of its understanding, it has to do with how we use the energy that we have wisely. So its functions in terms of balancing is multi level; it affects certain aspects of our mental well being, certain aspects of our emotional  well being and repercusses in relation to our physical well being. This is an example of how the system works, how we view this non-intrusive self-selective system.

Marie Angeline:  It's so fascinating isn’t it, because if you have experienced the Aura-Soma system, there is always more information.  That has never ceased to amaze me: how much you can learn just from little bottles.

Mike Booth:  I think that is possibly one of its disadvantages actually.  People underrate a system that is based around some colour bottles in what looks like a cosmetic frame, and yet what was given to Vicky Wall in 1983 through the Aura-Soma system was a profound gift for humanity in relation to this aspect of the light-body. Perhaps in 1983, she did not even know what it was she was given. Being involved with her from those early years,  it was like we were talking a foreign language to people because  people did not really understand what these bottles contained: the energies of colours, crystals and gems, the herbs and the plants, the essential oils and so on.  Yes, some of that was understandable, but why put it all together as a complete package in relation to the possibility of change?  To restore or to help us to remember the light body.
In recent times, many people are coming to the point of understanding that as human beings, we have been given an opportunity to evolve from being Homo-Sapiens to what we call Homo-Luminous. It seems to me that there is a correlation between the Aura-Soma system being given and what we have as a possibility through the system to develop the light-body, to evolve towards what being a Homo-Luminous might be. From the situation within humanity of, in effect, living in the jungle, then may be to become a Homo-Luminous it might be a step back towards the garden, that kind of thing.

Marie Angeline: I like that expression, Homo-Luminous.  What I would like to communicate to those who haven’t experienced the Aura Soma system is that apart from a sense of colours there is also a beautiful scent that comes from the Equilibrium bottles, the Quintessences and the Pomanders, and I feel this is very important because that is the first sense you experience when you are born and I was wondering, Mike, if you could tell us a little bit about its importance in the bottles.

Mike Booth: As you say, it is one of the oldest parts of the brain that responds to the aromas and has a deep level of association that can also be regressive.  We have consultants in different parts of the world, eg: in the United States, who work with the Aura-Soma system in relation to regression therapy. The use of the Quintessences and the Pomanders to connect with experiences that can be helpful to review as to their influence in this life, is very interesting.
Another aspect of that sense of smell is also the opposite: instead of taking us back, it can also help us to be more present, to be more in the moment, more in the now.  I think that anything that helps with those faculties of remembrance and also presence is very, very useful as a therapeutic tool.  The Pomanders and the Quintessences have those qualities of aiding us to be in the moment and helping us to remember.  Remembrance is like pulling the parts of ourselves together. It is like coming back to the body, coming back to the Soma aspect, bringing the light of consciousness to the Soma, to the body.  In doing that it might be remembering the limbs, hands, feet, torso or the head as separate parts but bringing them together as a cohesive experience.  Like any kind of body work, or yoga, it would also be an aid to that sense of wholeness, a sense of completion within ourselves and a way to more awareness.  If we remember ourselves, if we come into the presence of the body, then it is as though we are coming back to ourselves: we are not lost in the thoughts of what just happened on our journey here or we are not projecting into where we are going tomorrow.  We are just being here and we are in the present and that gives us another access to something that we could call the eternal.  So for me the Pomanders, the Quintessences, the ArchAngeloi within the Aura-Soma system offer the possibility of a doorway or gateway from the here and now to the eternal.

Marie Angeline: Since you were here last, there have been some changes in the Aura-Soma company side which is based in the UK.  Can you tell us more about this?

Mike Booth: One of the things that has happened is that my wife and I looked at many, many places in different parts of the world to expand the land in order to grow the herbs and the farm side of the Aura-Soma company. Part of the whole basis of the Aura-Soma system goes from the soil to the plant and to the soul. Think of that process and how we want essential oils, herb extracts and plants to come from a place of harmony from the beginning: from the soil itself through to the end products. Vicky started with a small garden and over the years, we gradually built up a farm of about 30 acres.  In the last couple of years that has expanded and as I said, we looked at many, many places. Eventually we found a place which is only ten minutes from the home of Aura-Soma Products and the AS I ACT Academy: a ten minute journey by car, just down the road.  It is a very, very beautiful farm, with 600 acres of farmland and it is now in conversion to bio-dynamics.  We believe very much that the organic/bio-dynamic route in agriculture, building the fertility within the soil, is an essential part of healthy plants in terms of their extracts or their essential oils (the two parts of the plant material), which can then be an aid to working with us as human beings.  That whole idea of the importance of the farm side functioning in an organic and biodynamic way is very, very critical.  That is one of the things that has really changed in the last couple of years: the scale of the vision for the Aura-Soma system for the future, because there is a lot of responsibility to look after that amount of land.
Then with all of that another very peculiar thing arose. I mentioned that we looked at many different places all over the world for suitable farm land that was having the right significance for the Aura-Soma company. We looked all over the UK and then we bought this piece of land and it was feeling right. Coincidentally, we then found that it was on exactly the same degree of latitude as Dev Aura, the International Academy of Colour Technologies in Tetford, England. Dev Aura is on the zero degree Greenwich line which also runs right through the middle of the farm.  Then you think that although you look all over the place, it was actually just on our doorstep and that somewhere, it was already pre-arranged.  It was on exactly the same zero degree as what Vicky and I discovered when we found that original site for the Academy.

Marie Angeline: It sounds really amazing and it very much is what we do every day: we look so far outside of ourselves to find peace, to find a sense of contentment, when actually we need to look inside and it’s just on our doorstep literally. Isn’t it a bit what the Aura Soma colour system helps you to do as well?

Mike Booth: Very much so and I think this is a lovely analogy. That is the deepest significance of how we can get distracted even in the midst of something like the Aura-Soma system which points us towards ourselves.  We can be looking a long way away and yet the clues are all there and often it is very close. There is a Sufi story that talks about a similar thing.  You look for the teacher or for the master in India or the Far East, yet maybe it is somebody who lives next door.

Marie Angeline: Mike, I was wondering if I could ask you to guide today’s meditation.

Mike Booth: Yes I’d like to. So yes if you would like to relax just a little bit, let go in the shoulders and in the back of the neck, let go the jaws a little, allow the eyes to rest back into their sockets. Feel a sense of dropping down inside yourself, a sense of being more in the belly, and feel the breath coming and going easily within the belly.  Each out breath: peace and letting go, a sense of what the energy of peace might be. Peace not as a word or a concept but what is the energy of peace underneath all that’s being experienced. Each out breath a letting go into the energy of peace. And if the attention wonders into other things, gently bring it back to the breath, the out breath and the letting go into the energy of peace.
Slowly and gently begin to feel yourself coming back to your body and on an out breath when it feels good, open your eyes to a new moment in your own time.

Marie Angeline: Thank you so much Mike it was so nice. It’s amazing what you can achieve in a very short time. A lot of people say that they don’t really have time to meditate yet in just a few minutes you can really reach that peaceful state.
Mike Booth: It is very important in this time. With our busy lives and the busyness of how society is, if we all just made a little more space then I think it would all be very important.

Marie Angeline: What I like about the Aura-Soma system is that we can simply sit with all the bottles and find ourselves becoming a little bit more peaceful. Before leaving us, I was wondering if you could give us one sentence, a golden nugget.

Mike Booth: What I would wish for the people of Ireland is that they can receive the covenant of the Rainbow and that they can feel safe in that covenant.

Marie Angeline: Thank you so much Mike it was a real privilege sharing this time with you.
