As
part of the programme, I carried out extensive research on the challenging
topic of suicide in Ireland and I presented a series of interesting conversations
with representatives from Aware, the Samaritans, Bodywise and the Association
of Suicidology,
some
listeners who had lost loved ones through suicide contacted me with their
stories
and
I interviewed a couple of people who had survived several suicide atttempts
to find out how they got themselves back on the road to wellness,
I
was joined on this programme by several holistic therapists who had all
experienced this difficult topic within the context of their work and who
gave us valuable insight on useful tools to deal with this and bring the
light back.

SYNOPSIS
This programme explores the strength of the Celtic
spiritual heritage, still very alive today in spite of enormous changes
in Irish communities.
Through the ancient art of storytelling and heartfelt
conversations with representatives from pagan, druidic and shamanic traditions,
the listeners embark into the wonderful world of Irish festivals, myths
and legends, fairies and leprechauns, shamanic drumming and journeying,
and druidic ceremonies at the Hill of Tara, learning how it has evolved
over the years and exploring the crucial role of these ancient beliefs
in today’s modern society.
Ruth Marshall, story teller and author of “Celebrating
Irish festivals” captivates the audience with the story of Dian Cecht of
the Tuatha De Daan and his children Miach and Airmid.
Jaya Moran, author of the Irish Mythological
Wheel of Life and Irish Fairy cards, draws the audience into the magical
world of Irish myths & legends, fairies & leprechauns and she explains
how working with them can be of great benefit to our listeners.
Dr. Eric Dilworth, MD, takes us on a tour of Ard Na
Ri, in Clon Mac Noise, which was built using sacred geometry.
John Bowker, Drum Circle facilitator, explains how
drumming can be used to access a different state of consciousness and to
rebuild our communities.
Martin Duffy, Director of the Irish Centre for Shamanic
Studies talks about the link between ancient Celtic traditions and other
shamanic traditions throughout the world and he leads our listeners on
a shamanic journey to meet their spirit guides and power animals.
Annette Peard & Anne Marie Murray bring
our listeners to the Hill of Tara where ancient druidic ceremonies have
survived through the centuries and are still very alive today.
Sister Rachel explores the link between her vocation
as an Irish Catholic nun and her work in the holistic field.
Seamus Byrne, Bernard Kirby, & Veronica O Reilly,
who belong to a mixed community of Irish Catholic monks, bring our listeners
into their healthy world of healing music and a body mind and spirit approach
of maintaining optimum health
Padraig Swan, director of Sli Eile lead us into the
positive energy generated by the Gardiner’s Street Gospel choir who brought
the community back into the church and the work of Jesuits with young adults
to build communities striving to see God in all things.
In conclusion, the underlying message of spiritual
leaders in Irish ancient and modern societies shows the strength and power
of our spiritual heritage and the importance of faith in our everyday lives
and in re-building a sense of community.
